What the world has come to

Before work, you want appreciation.

Before being hungry, you want food.

Before commitment, you want sex.

Before effort, you want results.

Before reasoning, you want understanding.

Before anything, you want everything.

Replace ‘Before’ in each line with ‘Without’ and read again. That I think is what the world has come to! :)

First thought, these were always prevalent in human society, we always have had day-dreamers :)
Second thought, isn’t this good for the intelligentsia ? Such people always serve as a source of motivation :)

Umm yeah. These have probably always been prevalent in human society. But then I think things have more explicitly come to be like this now than ever.
As for the second thought, I am wondering if it was sarcasm?

Correct. The ‘ratio’ is still the same, its just multiplied by a bigger number (huge population) now so you seem to be surrounded by such awesum guys :)
As for second thought, no sarcasm/pun intended, come to think of it, most (arguable :P ) people who do not fall into the categories defined by you are driven by envisioning the future of the people you referred to, I feel so.

“surrounded by such awesum guys” : Indeed! :P
On the second thought, it is quite a paradox then. :)

It has been like this since ages. I guess we are now prudent enough to realize that.
